(6/17) Damn You Altitude
Early Saturday morning, we left for Volcan de Chicabal. Before starting the hike, we all hopped into a truck to get to the start of the hike. Literally felt like the Indiana Jones ride in real life. Can’t go back to the Disney version after this. But, a couple minutes into the hike, I wasn’t laughing anymore. My Spanish teacher told be about the steepness of the hike, but boy did I struggle. The air felt super thin and the steep pathway of the hike felt endless. It flattened out eventually, but then we were met with the longest flight of stairs that I have ever encountered. We finally made it to the lake in the volcano, and I’ve never seen anything like it. In fact, when we arrived to the lake, you couldn’t even see anything because of the fog. It was just white. Kinda eerie, but very cool. We started walking around the lake, and eventually the fog cleared up so we could see the lake. It was so peaceful and beautiful. The hike back was also a struggle, but we made it back safe!
After the hike, we hosted a movie night at our house. We turned on 21 Jump Street, and everyone was into it for the first half or so, but people started slumping off one by one. The hike really got to us. Never felt like a movie could be so long. Got a good night’s sleep for sure.
